Since I specialize in western and ranch weddings, it only made sense that I style a shoot focused solely on western wedding inspiration, and man was it pretty. Filled with turquoise and boots and leather and lace and of course, cowhide (always with the cowhide, click here to see what I mean)! Not only did we focus on the brides, but, I threw in a little fashion for the fellas too!
LAMBSKIN FROM LIVEWIRE STYLE
I mean, the bride IS the center of attention, so let’s start there! I can’t say this enough, western wedding inspiration is MY JAM!! It’s a little boho and a little rustic and you really can’t do it wrong. We used two gowns for this shoot, on opposite ends of the spectrum. One was leather, one was lace, and BOTH were freaking goooorgeous!! The leather gown is from Livewire Style. Megan Holdren, owner and designer of Livewire, is amazing and really captures the western essence in this lambskin fit and flare, YES, LAMBSKIN gown. For the lovers of the satin covered buttons down the back, she doesn’t disappoint. Only she added the western flair of pearl snaps (it’s ok i’ll wait for you to pick up your jaw). I repeat, pearl snaps, aaaalll they way down the train, Jason Boland should really write a song about this! Finally, we added a fur wrap and a Charlie 1 Horse Highway hat adorned with a Boot Belle Accessories blingy hat band to give our bride more options!
“I WAS ASKED TO MAKE A WEDDING GOWN FOR A FRIEND AND I WAS SO INSPIRED, I JUST KEPT GOING! I HAD THIS BEAUTIFUL ART DECO, HAND BEADED LACE AND I JUST LOVED THE WAY IT LOOKED AGAINST THE PEARLIZED LAMB SKIN.” — MEGAN HOLDREN, LIVEWIRE DESIGNER
“MY INSPIRATION IS ALWAYS THE GIRL WHO WANTS AN EFFORTLESS, ONE OF A KIND DESIGN SHE CAN’T FIND ANYWHERE ELSE…GIRLS WHO WOULD RATHER GET MARRIED IN A BEAUTIFUL LOCATION WITH THEIR SOUL MATE THAN A FANCY VENUE.” — SARAH BEALS, DAME & MAIDEN DESIGNER
LACE GOWN FROM DAME & MAIDEN
Sarah Beals, owner and designer of Dame and Maiden, was a dream to work with. She hand crafted the perfect dress for our model and it truly had a dreamy boho feel, (this is a gown was my soul mate). To create these romantic, flowy, gowns Sarah uses only vintage Quaker lace that she scours the corners of the earth for. This halter top gown was easy to adjust specifically for our model and the low back added just a touch of sexy. Finally, the slight train gave it that romantic, wedding day feel without weighing it down or adding a ton of weight! Denim jackets will never go out of style, and are making waves with western and boho brides. The Rollin’ J Boutique had this denim delight with fur, and we were swooning!
“THE GOWN WAS INCREDIBLY COMFORTABLE AND I LOVED THE BOHEMIAN FEEL AND LOOK THAT IT HAD!” — HEATHER JONES, MODEL
As you may or may not know, I have a deep love affair with all things turquoise (let it be known; my hubby took inventory of the product for the shoot, to make absolutely certain that it all went back. Not cool hubby, not cool). Turquoise pieces are a staple of western wedding inspiration. Our brides were adorned with some suuuper gorgeous turquoise, silver and Navajo pearls from two very talented vendors. These pieces scream western/boho perfection. Buffalo Mercantile provided us with several different turquoise and silver pieces, to include rings, a few gorgeous turquoise strands, Navajo pearls, a gorgeous naja, a couple of cuffs and goooorgeous white buffalo earrings. Uniquely, Eastbound Silver, provided the perfect green earrings and vintage ring to accentuate our Pendleton fedora from The Rollin’ J and flower crown from Something Styled Events!
“I LOVED EVERYTHING! THE WHITE BUFFALO TURQUOISE WAS STUNNING AND I WAS SO HAPPY WITH THE BRIGHT COLOR IN THE NATURAL TURQUOISE WITH THE SILVER, IT LOOKED GORGEOUS! BEST JEWELRY I’VE WORN BY FAR!” — EVE ANDERSON, MODEL
What would a bride be without a band? Rockin’ Out Jewelry created the perfect western fashion wedding bands. I’m aaallll about the non-traditional engagement/wedding bands. Justin creates pieces embellished with western scroll and filagree that perfectly show off your western style! I mean, does it really get any better than hand crafted silver for your big day?!
Equally important, are the grooms, (although they always seem to take the back seat to the beauties)! Nevertheless, it’s their day too, and they should get a little spotlight when it comes to western wedding inspiration. We did two looks for the more masculine models of this shoot. We styled one in a lightweight, gray, western blazer from High Country Western Wear, and Ariat M2 Jeans (starched to stand on their own of course) from Cavender’s. The blue and tan paisley tie from Men’s Warehouse (shout out to the tie guy) perfectly tied in the “Competitor” hat in “French Tan” from Greeley Hat Works (I had to pry this gorgeous hat from hubby’s hands). Floral tooling at the waist line from Texas Saddlery) and full Ostrich quill from Anderson Bean on his feet and this groom was ready to walk down the aisle!
Secondly, we dressed our groom down, just a tad. We paired a brown herringbone vest from Men’s Warehouse; the perfect on trend look, with a vintage fit, with a pair of Wrangler Riata relaxed fit casual pants from Cavender’s in Goldenrod. Since, these pants have a tint of olive they paired perfectly with the “Pure Beaver” in “Sage” from Greeley Hat Works. Finishing off his look we added a tooled buck stitch belt from High Country Western Wear and a bolo tie (family heirloom) that would make “Papa Jack” proud!
Have I ever told you how much I love florals that are out of the box? Something Styled Events brought my vision to LIFE! After all, western wedding inspiration is about more than just what you wear. Ranunculus and pheasant feathers and non-traditional stems were everything western and boho bridal flair. Finish it off with a gorgeous hand woven macrame bouquet wrap from Knotty Natured HB and it was a bohemian dream! Flower crowns have been popular for awhile now. However, to change it up, we placed it around a Pendleton fedora, to give our lacy bride a second “reception” type look. The Fellas were embellished with the perfect simple boutonnieres that included many of the same touches as the brides florals.
“WE WERE APPROVED TO DO A BEAUTIFUL BOHEMIAN RUSTIC STYLED SHOOT AND WE GOT VERY EXCITED! WE WANTED TO TAKE HER VISION AND ADD LOCAL COLORADO GRASSES AND FOLIAGE WITH LOTS OF TEXTURE FOR THE BOUQUET, PENDLETON HAT CROWN AND BOUTTONIERES!” — SOMETHING STYLED EVENTS DESIGNERS
THE INVITATION SUITE
For the final touch of western wedding inspiration, let’s talk calligraphy! The first glimpse into your big day, will be your invitation suite. It gives everyone a preview of the theme and feeling you will be creating for your wedding day. Blush and Swoon Shop created the perfect rustic/boho set, to include a leather RSVP card. Doesn’t get more western than leather and seriously, feathers (read more about my obsession with feathers, here)!!!
BREAK, BEND OR CREATE YOUR OWN RULES
There truly are no rules when it comes to western wedding inspiration. You simply can’t go wrong with leather or lace, or a mix of the two! Your options for accessories are endless. Mix it all up with denim and fur, tooled leather, and/or Pendleton wool to add texture, for instance. Dress it all up with some turquoise and silver. Then finish it off with some unique florals and throw in some macrame for a final touch and you will be saying I do in a western, boho bridal fantasy!
